Canva Embeds Full Design Creation Into ChatGPT
You can now create and edit Canva designs inside ChatGPT.
Canva has embedded full, secure design creation and editing directly into ChatGPT, enabled by the Canva MCP Server.
To not get confused, Canva MCP is different from the CanvaGPT released in 2023. The new tool is far more capable than the custom GPT.
Before I get into the details, perhaps it’s important to know what an MCP is and why major tech companies are racing to support it.
MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, which is an open protocol that lets you connect AI models over the internet to new data sources and capabilities. This means your chatbot can write/fetch data, and interact with external apps like Canva and even your local system.
You can learn more about MCPs here.
What Can You Do With Canva MCP?
Canva MCP enables many possible use cases when integrated into various platforms. In the case of ChatGPT, here is the set of capabilities that you can take advantage of:
Generate any design type (social posts, presentations, etc.) based on the chat, e.g., “Canva, create a pitch deck based on this conversation.”
Edit text in designs
Translate text in designs into other languages
Browse, search & summarize existing Canva designs and assets in ChatGPT
Coming soon: Autofill brand templates with labeled, formatted data from AI-generated insights
Additionally, Canva is one of the first platforms building on ChatKit, OpenAI’s new tool for building chat UI with embeddable components.
“We’re solving for this by meeting users where they are — embedding Canva directly into ChatGPT and the AI tools they use every day so they can create without friction. This is a major step in our vision to empower the world to design by making it simple, secure, and accessible to all.” — Anwar Haneef, GM and Head of Ecosystem at Canva.
Enable Canva MCP in ChatGPT
