Cursor is in the middle of a self-inflicted mess.

After quietly changing the pricing model of its coding agents, paying subscribers started hitting rate limits much earlier than expected. Some were even charged extra without warning.

It’s a bloodbath on platforms like X, Reddit, and even on their community. The majority of its users, including myself, are not happy with this update because it felt like Cursor has dropped the ball and rug-pulled everyone.

For context, here’s what happened:

  • Before June 16, 2025: Cursor’s Pro plan, priced at $20 per month allows users to utilize the best coding models like Claude 4 Sonnet or Gemini 2.5 Pro without limits. I was happily paying for this price because there was no interruption regardless of how many requests I send to the chat agent in a day.
