It’s only been a couple of weeks since Google introduced Veo 3, their most capable AI video model yet. Veo 3 is special because it’s the first model that generates both video and native audio. You give it a prompt and a script, and it will create an eight-second clip where the subject speaks your lines with matching lip sync, expressions, and even sound effects.
But there was one big problem. The cost.
When the API first launched, I was taken aback by experimenting. A five-second video with audio costs $3.75. Each additional second is another $0.75. Do the math, and a one-minute Veo 3 video would cost you a whopping $45. That’s not very cheap for most users.
Thankfully, Google released a brand new model today that costs 5x less than Veo 3. It’s called Veo 3 Fast.
The rest of the article will explain what Veo 3 Fast is, how to access and use it, and I’ll show you video examples along with my thoughts.
Let’s get started.
