Elon Musk and xAI have officially launched Grok 4, their most powerful AI model yet. The announcement was made during a one-hour livestream event on the X platform, where Musk gave a full walkthrough of what the new model can do.
The new model is set to compete with Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro and OpenAI’s upcoming GPT-5 model, which is expected to be launched later this summer. The new model is trained on xAI’s Colossus supercomputer for advanced, scientist-grade reasoning. It has 100 times more training data than Grok 2 and 10 times more reinforcement learning compute than any other model available.
During the stream, Elon said, “With respect to academic questions, Grok 4 is better than PhD level in every subject, no exceptions.” He also mentioned that we’re entering a new era in AI, something he called “Big Bang Intelligence.”
What’s New In Grok 4
There are two versions of Grok 4, each designed for different types of tasks and users.
